Feltex Automotive Leathers

Feltex Automotive Leathers (FAL) is one of the largest automotive tanneries in South Africa. It produces leather for seating, door panels, gear boot covers, and gear lever covers. In addition, it markets quality leather products for the furniture and aviation industries. It services both global and local markets.

In 1920 the company started out as the Silverton Tannery in Pretoria, being the original South African supplier of leather to the automotive industry. The company relocated to Ladysmith, KwaZulu Natal in 1988, where it remains one of the largest employers.

During 1992 FAL made automotive leather its primary focus. The company moved into its current state of the art premises in Ladysmith in June 2000. In December 2003, Daun Et Cie became the majority shareholder.

The current facility has a capacity of 4000 hides per day. FAL is fortunate to have an integrated supply of raw material through the KAP International feedlots and African Hide Trading (also owned by Daun Et Cie AG), which have dedicated procurement centres throughout Southern Africa and global networks to produce wet-blue hides/wet-white hides for automotive tanneries.

Leather is supplied to the automotive, aviation and furniture industry as either full hides or as cut-to-pattern kits, depending on customer requirements. FAL is proud to be associated with DaimlerChrysler, Toyota, General Motors (Opel and Isuzu) and Mitsubishi, and constantly strives to improve its global competitiveness.

The company has stringent quality standards in the form of ISO 9001 (2000), ISO14001 (2004) and ISO/TS 16949 (2002) accreditation.
